The Golden Division entered a new neighborhood in Mosul, Noor.
Otherwise the unit was busy fighting in the other areas of the city it
breached. Combat has been very intense with a constant wave of car bombs and
Islamic State fighters attacking from the rear via the extensive tunnel system
it has built up. That accounts for the slower pace of the advance, and the lack
of news on the twenty-first day of the campaign.
In the south, the Federal police finally took Hamam
al-Alil along with three villages
nearby. Now
that was secured the Iraqi forces will be attacking the Mosul airport.
The army’s 9th and 16th Divisions coming
from the north and south liberated four more villages.
